The climat sits directly below the village on the eastern edge of Les Charmes, at 220 meters with an east exposure on mostly chalky limestone, and the vines here are around 75 years old, which goes a long way toward explaining the depth this wine finds at premier cru level rather than grand. Patrice Cacheux, the fourth generation, took over from his father Jacques in 1994 and has moved the farming toward biodynamics — no herbicides, no insecticides, no anti-rot treatments — while in the cellar the fruit is fully de-stemmed, cold-macerated for a week, and fermented with native yeasts. Aging is 18 months in new 228-liter French oak, which sounds bold until you taste how much old-vine fruit is underneath it.
