Antonio Galloni

"The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1er Cru comes from a parcel close to Les Perrières. It has a much more reserved and broody bouquet compared to that vineyard, requiring more coaxing from the glass and, I suspect, more bottle age. The palate is quite saline on the entry with good acidity, and a little fatter than the Les Perrières. Mineralité floods through on the finish. Superb." -Vinous

"The highlight of Carillon's range of premiers crus is the 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Réferts, a lovely cuvée that exhibits pretty scents of citrus oil, white flowers and warm bread. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with both more concentration and tension than the Perrières this year, concluding with a promisingly chalky finish. I'm looking forward to revisiting it in bottle." -Robert Parker

"More upright and closed than the other two Premiers Crus in Jacques Carillon's range, with flavours of citrus peel and green herbs, this is still very youthful at the moment and will need more time in bottle to digest its 20% new wood. Taut and focused, with a very flinty, mineral palate and some subtle struck match reduction."

What importer Rosenthal Wine Merchant has to say about this wine...

The domaine controls about a quarter hectare of vines within this noble 1er Cru. The vines are an average age of forty years. The “Referts” is fermented and aged in barrel like the other whites and 20% of the barrels are new. This cuvée is the most refined and elegant and complex of the 1er Cru wines of the domaine, marrying its rich core to a rigorous structure that results in a wine capable of aging gracefully for a decade and more.
