Standing at the heart of Champagne’s most recent renaissance—a celebration of micro-terroir, viticulture and cellar technique—is Anselme Selosse. Anselme’s trailblazing explorations in technique and terroir and his iconoclastic stances against all trends of dogma and standardization in the vineyards and in the cellar have energized an entire generation of growers.

The profound influence of Selosse's vision is worthy of reverence, but equally impressive are the remarkable Champagnes that give his philosophy life.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

"The (2010) Extra-Brut Ambonnay Le Bout du Clos is decidedly gracious and feminine in this release. A wine that speaks in hushed tones, the Bout du Clos is floral and bright, with perhaps a bit less textural intensity and power than is the norm. White flowers, cranberry, white pepper and mint add aromatic complexity throughout." -Vinous

"The NV Extra-Brut Grand Cru Le Bout du Clos is all about power, depth and pure structure. The weight and gravitas of Ambonnay comes through beautifully in this intense, layered Champagne. Hard candy, wild flowers, mint and spice are some of the many notes that take shape in the glass. The current release is a blend of vintages 2004 and 2005, two years that are very much complimentary in nature. I drank several bottles of the Bout du Clos during a recent trip in Italy, and was never let down. This is a gorgeous showing. Today the Bout du Clos has an implosive, huge minerality that keeps the wine from being fully expressive, but in another few years, the wine should start to be even better than it is today."

"Mid gold. More bready and honeyed on the nose. Lots of spice. More rounded in the mouth even though the freshness of Victoria plums is there to bring energy. Really tight and more austere on the palate but fans out on the finish."

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
