Joseph Drouhin is, of course, one of the great names of Burgundy. A rare producer that makes fantastic wines across the whole range of prices. Their Musigny is one of Burgundy's most sought-after bottles. But their "everyday-priced" wines are some of the greatest values year in and year out. And in between those extremes, they have a whole range of perfectly terroir expressive wines that over-deliver for price, including gems like the legendary Cotes their Beaune Clos des Mouches, offering close to Grand Cru quality at decidedly lower prices.

Professional Reviews

BH 93
"Ultra-spicy, cool and dazzlingly pure aromas flash notes of red and dark raspberry, rose petal and violet along with a vague hint of exotic tea. There is fine density and even better refinement to the delicate but punchy flavors that are akin to rolling small stones around in the mouth on the beautifully long finale. This compact yet elegant effort should age gracefully for up to 15 years and I would be inclined to allow it at least 7 to 8. In a word, excellent." -Allen Meadows

"The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru has a delineated bouquet of blackberry, raspberry and light iris flower aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine precision, quite minerally and showing much more precision than the Village (as you would expect) and just the right amount of salinity on the finish. This is one of Véronique Drouhin’s pet favorites, and I can understand why." -Vinous

Robert Parker

"The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru is lovely, mingling aromas of raspberries with hints of orange rind, spices and rose petals. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's bright and lively, with ultra-refined tannins and a long, perfumed finish. As I've written before, this routinely excellent cuvée—which is mainly made from estate fruit—continues to fly a bit under the radar, so readers would do well to seek it out." -Robert Parker

"The nose is a bit introvert at the moment, but the spread of subtle fruit across the palate is stunning! Velvety texture. This would make an excellent teaching tool to communicate Chambolle's special sumptuousness. Long and rich on the finish. Pure flattery."
