Joseph Drouhin is, of course, one of the great names of Burgundy. A rare producer that makes fantastic wines across the whole range of prices. Their Musigny is one of Burgundy's most sought-after bottles. But their "everyday-priced" wines are some of the greatest values year in and year out. And in between those extremes, they have a whole range of perfectly terroir expressive wines that over-deliver for price, including gems like the legendary Cotes their Beaune Clos des Mouches, offering close to Grand Cru quality at decidedly lower prices.
"Wisps of resin, petrol and wood sit atop the mostly white flower and citrus -scented nose. There is fine volume and equally good vibrancy to the nicely mineral-inflected medium-bodied flavors that exhibit fine length on the balanced finish where the citrus character flashed by the nose reemerges on the clean, dry and focused finale. This too is lovely." -Allen Meadow
"The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Embazees 1er Cru has a gentle, lilting bouquet with scents of white peach, apricot and citrus, gaining intensity with aeration. The palate is lively thanks to a welcome seam of sour lemon that drives this Chassagne along, and offers wonderful salinity toward the finish. Excellent." -Neal Martin
"The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Embazées is showing very nicely, exhibiting aromas of pear, orange oil, fresh pastry and toasted nuts, followed by a medium to full-bodied, lively palate that's ripe but precise." -William Kelley
