Joseph Drouhin is, of course, one of the great names of Burgundy. A rare producer that makes fantastic wines across the whole range of prices. Their Musigny is one of Burgundy's most sought-after bottles. But their "everyday-priced" wines are some of the greatest values year in and year out. And in between those extremes, they have a whole range of perfectly terroir expressive wines that over-deliver for price, including gems like the legendary Cotes their Beaune Clos des Mouches, offering close to Grand Cru quality at decidedly lower prices.

Professional Reviews

"Like the Amoureuses, a highly perfumed nose displays a blend of floral, spice, plum and dark currant aromas. Here too the mouthfeel of the slightly bigger and more powerful flavors remains highly refined and super-sleek with an equally delicate mid-palate texture, all wrapped in a firm, powerful and even classier finale. This is indisputably regal and as is often the case, this is easily the best wine in the range in 2019. Beautiful juice that is packed with upside development potential. *Burghound Don't Miss!*" -Allen Meadow

"The 2019 Musigny Grand Cru contains 40% whole bunch. It has a beguiling bouquet of haunting delineation, featuring very pure black fruit mixed with truffle and light Earl Grey aromas. The palate is exquisitely balanced, hints of allspice and clove infusing the black fruit. A touch of dark chocolate emerges toward the very persistent finish, which fans out just as you would expect from a Musigny. Effortless." -Neal Martin

"Drouhin's 2019 Musigny Grand Cru is brilliant, soaring from the glass with aromas of raspberries, cherries, orange rind, exotic spices, rose petals, musk and classy new oak. Full-bodied, layered and perfumed, it's deep and multidimensional, with lively acids, powdery tannins and a long, mineral finish. This is worth a special effort to seek out. The 2019 vintage has turned out beautifully at this address, delivering wines of immense charm, and it was a pleasure tasting through this selection with Véronique Drouhin. These textural, sumptuous whites will offer considerable immediate appeal—even if Drouhin's two bottlings from the holdings of the Marquis de Laguiche are also built for the cellar—but it's the perfumed, vibrant and enveloping reds that really steal the show this year. To my palate, of all the region's important houses, Drouhin's style places the greatest premium on aromatic range and structural finesse; and the 2019 reds compellingly exemplify those aesthetic priorities." -William Kelley
