Agricola Lisini, with vineyards high in the hills of southerly Sant' Angelo in Colle, was a founding member of the Brunello Consorzio and has never strayed from the traditional principles laid out in its charter. Fermentation in old glass-lined concrete, 18–24 days of maceration, aging in neutral Slavonian barrels, and bottling without filtration make for pure, unadulterated expressions of terroir. Lisini's high elevation and limestone soils not only set them apart from the rest of southern Montalcino but also give that added edge of freshness and verve that only the very best Brunello possess.

All of the estate's wines are pure, traditional and exceptional expressions of Sangiovese Grosso.

Professional Reviews

D 95
"Lisini is one of Montalcino’s oldest estates and has been owned by the Lisini-Clementi family since the 16th century. Today, it is run by Ludovica Lisini and her cousins Carlo and Lorenzo. After a few moments in the glass, liquorice, chocolate and tobacco begin to permeate. Full yet deftly balanced, layers of grainy tannins are an equal match for the dense, dark fruit. Though ageing is in large oak casks, there is a suggestion of wood with sweet vanillin and mint. I suspect a couple more years in bottle will bring everything into exquisite cohesion."

Wine Spectator

WS 94
"A touch of new oak adds an element of sweetness and spice to this cherry-, plum- and mineral-flavored red, which is lithe, with well-integrated, underlying tannins and a lingering finish."

Wine Enthusiast

WE 96
"Inviting aromas of ripe wild berry, baking spice and Mediterranean herb are front and center along with a whiff of blue flower. Full bodied and vibrant, the savory palate features ripe Marasca cherry, star anise and nutmeg framed in noble tannins. Bright acidity provides freshness and balance. Give this time to fully develop and you'll be rewarded." -Kerin O'keefe
