Luneau-Papin, in Le Landreau, is one of the greatest addresses in Muscadet — up there with Pépière, Bregeon and Landron — and \"L d'Or\" is the family's flagship: old vines rooted in a narrow vein of granite and two-mica gneiss off the Armorican Massif, fermented with native yeasts and left unracked on their fine lees in underground glass-tiled vats before bottling sur lie. That combination — low alcohol, searing natural acidity, no oak, and months of lees to feed the texture and shield the wine from oxygen — is exactly why the cuvée has been a reference point for ageing in the appellation since the late 1990s. 2005 was the great Loire vintage of the decade: near-perfect weather from flowering to harvest, real ripeness with the acidity intact, and the most concentrated wine of this five-vintage run. It is fully mature now and sitting comfortably on its plateau, with the deep honeyed-quince register that only a Muscadet with this much stuffing develops.
