It's also home to Malvira's oldest Nebbiolo vines, which is why this is the estate's Riserva bottling: the estate's Riserva from its oldest Nebbiolo vines. The vineyard name is a genuine piece of local history — archives of the Counts Roero, the medieval owners, record it as 'Reneysium', a word tied to the name of the Arneis grape, later 'Renexij' and then Italianised to 'Ornesio'. Roberto and Massimo Damonte took over their father Giuseppe's bulk-wine business in 1974 and rebuilt it as a quality estate; this is the wine that makes their case for Roero as a serious address.
