Molitor makes his Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Spätlese in more than one style (his 2018 was fruity-sweet, his 2023 dry), and the colour of the capsule tells you which, not the word Spätlese. The Sonnenuhr (the name means \"sundial\") is a steep slope facing south-southwest, on stony soil of eroded clayey slate. Much of it was never put through the Flurbereinigung, the wholesale reshaping of German vineyards, so it still holds ancient Riesling vines growing on their own roots. Molitor calls wines from this site extremely elegant and delicate, built on a filigree acid structure. His aim is Mosel wine made the way it was a century ago: pressed gently in a traditional basket press, fermented spontaneously and aged for a long time on the fine lees.
