Martin & Anna start with the Austrian grapes of Zweigelt and Gruner Veltliner, grown in classic loess soils. The Zweigelt is made as a skin-contact rosé (with a maceration of about 14 hours), after which it is added to crushed Gruner Veltliner (only the Gruner skins, as the juice has already been pressed off) for fermentation in a vat. The wine is aged in a combination of vats and aged French oak barrels, before being bottled with a minimal amount of sulfur. The Zweigelt fruit ends up somewhere between raspberry and strawberry, and the Gruner skins lend a gentle spice. There is a freshness in the wine like a tangy vinaigrette, one made perhaps with tangerines. It’s truly lovely.

Martin and Anna Arndorfer take everything seriously, but most of all each other. Martin was born in the vineyards, Anna in the cellar. Unlike most young adults, itching to get as far away from home as possible, these two wanted nothing more than to stay put and make beautiful wine. They're a match made in heaven.

After grad school, they formed their own winery in a cold, rocky pocket of Austria's Kamptal. They “produce wine for pleasure and with pleasure,” a philosophy we think everyone can appreciate. Farming is certified organic, but they prefer to avoid dogmatic beliefs or labels; the goal here is to let the vineyards speak through the wine. Winemaking is “natural” with no additives and low sulphur but not “hands-off.” Every move is thoughtful and intentional.
