Piesporter Goldtropfchen wraps an amphitheater around the village of Piesport on a long outer bend of the river, all southeast-to-southwest exposures on deep, dark Devon slate veined with quartz. Where Kilburg's Ohligsberg is dark and architectural, Goldtropfchen is brighter and more fragrant: stone fruit, spice, herbs, a lithe and piercing line. Max, a 20th-generation grower trained by Julian Haart, makes this in dry Grand Cru style from old vines on the steepest gradients. The 2024 vintage was tiny but high-quality.
