Sergio Manetti founded Montevertine in 1967 in Radda in Chianti and famously walked away from the Chianti Classico consortium in the early 1980s, choosing to bottle his wines as Toscana IGT instead. His son Martino runs the estate today. This is the eponymous 'Montevertine' bottling, the estate's namesake mid-tier wine (the top cuvée being Le Pergole Torte): roughly 90% Sangiovese with Canaiolo and Colorino, fermented in cement and aged about 24 months in large Slavonian oak. The 2015 vintage was warm and generous in Tuscany, and at a decade in bottle this wine is in a sweet spot, primary fruit beginning to cede to sous bois, tobacco, and dried herbs.
