Nigl is a beautiful Kremstal estate at the end of a cool valley, surrounded by steep loess and rocky slopes. Only in its second generation, father and son, Martin Sr. and Martin Jr. are quickly elevating their reputation around the world.

A tasting of the wines offers a kaleidoscopic array of flavors across the line up of intense and concentrated wines. The aged bottles are magical. Martin Jr's recent influence has pushed the wines towards more elegance and freshness with their Kremstal Grüner Veltliner, a perennial staff favorite.

"Made by Martin Nigl Junior and tasted as a sample in July 2017, the 2016 Ried Pellingen 1ÖTW Riesling Privat opens with a pure and crystalline nose with classic, bright Riesling and citrus fruit aromas. Full-bodied, dense and elegant on the palate, this is a round and intense dry Riesling from the Pellingen, a south to southwest-facing vineyard in Senftenberg with mica schist soils. The 2016 is powerful and promising and reveals firm structure and an intense, persistent finish." -Robert Parker

"This wine's wonderfully pithy, pear-fruited nose hints at once at freshness and depth. The palate honors this with pristine, ripe pear notes and lovely, fragrant lemony depth. Everthing about this brims with pear and Mandarin fruit, concluding in a refreshing citrusy finish."
