Oddero, Barolo "Rivera di Castiglione", 1996

Rivera is a rarely seen name that is technically a sub-Cru of Scaronne, but it's actually right beside Rocche and is quite similar (in fact it appears as "Rocche dei Rivera di Castiglione" on this label). The soils are a little richer in limestone, and have less sand, than Rocche, so the wines tend to be touch more powerful. 1996 is the greatest vintage of the 1990s -- long-lived and very classically styled!

This wine has been stored in ideal conditions since release and the bottles are pristine.

Wine Spectator

WS 84
"A rich and decadent wine with tobacco, meat and berry character. Full-bodied, with mouthpuckering tannins and acidity and a slightly acidic, dry finish. Better with age. Best after 2002. 340 cases made."
