The 2007 harvest set a new record for earliness in Barbaresco. That wasn't down to a hot summer (it was pleasant and relatively cool) but to a mild winter with no snow, which got the season going a full two weeks ahead of schedule. Picking started on 16 September and moved slowly for almost three weeks in spectacular weather. It brought in thick-skinned grapes and about 20% less wine than usual, and the Produttori judged the result powerful, ripe and long-lived. Behind the bottle is the cooperative model at its best: 51 members farming nearly 100 hectares of Barbaresco Nebbiolo, and cru-level wine at a price no single estate with this pedigree would dream of asking.
