Renaissance farms a 1,300-acre property above Oregon House in Yuba County, its vines terraced around a granite dome between roughly 1,700 and 2,300 feet, where freezing nights and blazing afternoons stretch the growing season out. The estate is the reason North Yuba became an AVA in the mid-1980s, and under Gideon Beinstock, winemaker here from 1993 into the mid-2000s and also the founder of Clos Saron, the reds were dry-farmed and organically grown, fermented with native yeasts, raised in used barrels and bottled without fining or filtration. Reserve is the Cabernet-based top tier, and Renaissance was famous for holding its best reds in barrel and bottle for years rather than pushing them out young, so the wine arrives already unwound rather than needing another decade.
