Rostaing inherited prize parcels in Cote Rotie from his father-in-law, Albert Dervieux, and uncle, Marius Gentaz. He went on to become a legend of his own. His son, Pierre, took over in 2015 and pushed the domaine in a more traditional direction. The high quality has gotten even higher.

Antonio Galloni

"Deep-pitched black/blue fruit, licorice, game and floral qualities on the powerfully scented nose. Broad and weighty in style, showing serious power to the bitter cherry, cassis and blueberry flavors, which take on smoky mineral and exotic spice notes as the wine opens up. There's noteworthy energy here for such a broad-shouldered wine. Finishes extremely long, chewy and subtly sweet, with steadily building tannins and resonating blue fruit and floral notes." -Vinous

"For the second time in the past four vintages, this parcel of vines—replanted in 2000—has yielded a "perfect" wine. Rostaing's 2019 Cote Rotie Cote Brune boasts crazy but harmonious complexity on the nose. From scents of violets and rose petals to red raspberries and currants and on to savory tones of black olives and mocha, there's just so much going on, yet all combine effortlessly to pull the taster inexorably into the wine. Then the swells of concentration and layers of texture cross the palate, lingering in velvety richness on the long, vibrant finish." -Robert Parker
