In a rare opportunity to learn about South Africa from one of its very top producers right here in New York, we're thrilled to announce that Chris Mullineux will be joining us on the mezzanine on Friday, June 27 to share the amazing wines of Mullineux and lead us through a seminar on the amazing terroirs of South Africa.Ā

The winery has established itself as one of South Africa’s most celebrated, with lauded introductory wines and top-shelf soil-specific wines alike. By 2023 the winery had received over fifty 5-star ratings from Platter’s South African Wine Guide, as well as being awarded Platter’s Winery of the Year an unprecedented five times in 2023, 2020, 2019, 2016 and 2014. In addition, Andrea was named Wine Enthusiast’s 2016 International Winemaker of the Year and in 2016 Chris and Andrea were Tim Atkin’s South African Winemakers of the Year.

We will taste Mullineux's top wines, including their single soil profile collection side-by-side, a rare experience. The cost of this seminar is $40 and a $20 credit at the store will be extended to each guest for a future purchase. Seating is limited and special pricing on the featured wines will be made available only to attendees. We hope you can join us on the mezzanine atĀ 6pm on Friday, June 27Ā for this special evening.

More about Chris Mullineux:

Chris Mullineux was born in Cape Town and graduated from the University of Stellenbosch with degrees in accounting as well as viticulture and enology. Post studies he worked in the vineyards and cellars of some of the greatest wineries of South Africa, California and France where he learned the intricacies of old-world winemaking and the expression of place.

Chris met his wife Andrea (a fellow winemaker from California) while on an internship in the South of France. After working together in France and South Africa, Chris & Andrea chose to settle in the Swartland region, firmly believing that the ancient granite and schist based terroirs and old vineyards of this region had the potential to produce truly great wine.

Gautheron is, as Burghound says, an ā€œold school domaineā€ with a ā€œdecidedly traditional style.ā€ But traditional doesn’t mean staid: Gautheron is an exciting producer to get to know. Partly, that’s down to Cyril, (son of Alain) bringing new energy and focus to the old-school approach: yields are low, farming is more focussed than ever, and the wines have both intense expressiveness and clear identity.

This treat from Spain's Basque Country has a margarita's lime zest notes and touch of salt, but with the added complex minerality and long, fresh finish of the world's best peak-of-summer wines.
