As we've argued for years, thinking of Sancerre as merely Sauvignon Blanc is like thinking of Chablis as nothing more than Chardonnay, and cousins Jean-Laurent and Jean-Dominique Vacheron make that case parcel by parcel across an estate they farm biodynamically. This one is hand-harvested, fermented on indigenous yeasts and aged about ten months in older French oak barrels and tonneaux, then bottled unfiltered. 2024 was a brutal growing season in the Centre-Loire — roughly twice the normal rainfall, spring frost and hail, relentless downy mildew, and a late, staggered picking that ran well into October — but the cool conditions suited the whites, which came in fresher, more aromatic and lower in alcohol than the recent run of warm years.
