Burghound

BH 92
"(NV Varnier-Fannière Extra Brut - Cuvée Jean Fannière Origine Grand Cru Grand Cru White) A very restrained if highly elegant nose that is presently still quite vinous with limited croissant and yeast elements adding breadth to the presently very floral and citrus suffused aromas. Strong effervescence supports the crisp and beautifully detailed flavors that actually do not appear as dry as the Extra Brut category normally suggests as there is no angularity or austerity though there is certainly ample rigor present. If your taste runs to extra brut, this is a good one to consider as there is plenty of wine here. (Drink starting 2011)"

Antonio Galloni

"The NV Extra-Brut Cuvée de Jean Fannière Origine is 100% Chardonnay, vintages 2015 and 2014 from the 50 year-old vines in Chemin de Châlons, one of the most highly regarded sites in Cramant. Rich and ample, the Origine possesses superb depth and resonance that build with time in the glass. The flavors are so remarkably pure. In the glass, the Origine is bold and enveloping to its core, not to mention a Champagne of gravitas ad character. Apricot, tangerine oil, smoke, almond, sage and chamomile linger on the substantial close. Dosage is 3 grams per liter. Disgorged: July 7, 2017." -Vinous

Robert Parker

RP 93
"Revisited from the July 2017 disgorgement (which saw three grams per liter dosage), Varnier-Fannière's NV Extra Brut Cuvée Jean Fannière Origine continues to show well, offering up a lovely bouquet of citrus oil, crisp yellow apple, buttery pastry, fresh peach and verbena, with fewer of the biscuity nuances I found on my last encounter with the wine. Medium to full-bodied, bright and pillowy, it's charming and beautifully balanced, with fine depth at the core, racy acids and a delicately chalky finish." -Robert Parker

Wine Spectator

WS 91
"Sleek and minerally, with the fine bead carrying flavors of Gala apple, tangerine, smoke and oyster shell. This is well-cut and lively, with citrus and floral notes on the finish. Disgorged April 2016. Drink now through 2022."

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
