Louis Roederer is one of the largest family-owned and run Champagne houses—and one of the oldest. Because they’ve been purchasing land for nearly 250 years, they’ve amassed valuable land all over Champagne; they are able to pick and choose which parcel goes into which cuvée, taking into account the specifics of each plot.

Founded in 1776, by the 19th century Louis Roederer was named the official wine supplier to the Russian court, by Tsar Nicholas II. They were among the first major Champagne houses to produce a tête de cuvée—the famed Cristal was first released in 1945.

These days, Roederer is acclaimed for their rigorous standards in farming—with nearly a third of their 590 acres farmed biodynamically, they are the largest biodynamic grower in Champagne. Nearly every cuvée they produce is made from estate fruit; the one exception is the Brut Premier, which includes roughly 20% bought fruit, purchased from farmers with whom they have long term contracts.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 92
"Roederer's 2014 Brut Blanc de Blancs sizzles with tension and energy. Citrus, white flowers, crushed rocks and white pepper race across the palate. Most of the attention at Roederer falls to other wines, most notable the Cristals and the NV, but the Blanc de Blancs is a quiet wine that often overachieves, as it does in 2014. Superb." -Vinous

Robert Parker

RP 94
"Disgorged with just over seven grams per liter dosage, Roederer's 2014 Brut Blanc de Blancs is showing brilliantly, wafting from the glass with aromas of citrus oil, orchard fruit, freshly baked bread and white flowers, framed by subtly reductive top notes. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it's pillowy and enveloping, with lively acids and a pearly, lower-pressure mousse, concluding with a long, chalky finish. Derived entirely from Avize, it's one of the great sleeper cuvées in contemporary Champagne." -Robert Parker

Wine Spectator

WS 93
"A graceful Champagne, with vivid acidity creating a mouthwatering frame for delicately-meshed flavors of ripe yellow plum and melon, preserved lemon and salty mineral. There's a light, creamy plushness to the mousse, carrying the flavor profile through to the well-cut, lightly spiced finish."
