Foradori is synonymous with Teroldego, the indigenous Trentino variety that Elisabetta Foradori helped elevate from obscurity to one of Italy’s most compelling reds. The 2022 Vigneti delle Dolomiti Teroldego is the estate’s most direct and immediate expression of the grape, sourced from younger vines and aged in cement to preserve its energy and drinkability. Compared to Foradori’s single-parcel bottlings, this wine emphasizes freshness and accessibility while still reflecting the region’s Alpine/Dolomiti terroir.

Lush blackberry, wild plum, and crushed blueberry lead the nose, accented by violets, black pepper, and a touch of mountain herbs. The palate is juicy and energetic, with soft tannins and a mineral core that keeps the wine bright and lifted. While Foradori’s Granato is deeper and more structured, and the Sgarzon and Morei amphora-aged Teroldegos are earthier and more textural, this cuvée is all about fruit purity and vibrancy.

Best served slightly chilled, this 2022 Teroldego pairs effortlessly with charcuterie, roasted poultry, or grilled vegetables. Delicious in its youth but with enough structure to develop over the next few years, it’s an inviting introduction to Foradori’s singular take on Teroldego.

Elisabetta Foradori has been a darling of the natural wine movement and a champion of Trentino for decades. She has adopted many ancient wine making techniques, but always strives for balanced, clean and long lived expressions of her native varieties.

A champion of Biodynamics, selection massale, experimentation and the natural wine movement, Elisabetta and her children have been making strides in Trentino. Their slice of heaven is known as the Campo Rotaliano, a 400 acre flood plain formed by the the rivers Adige and Noce bordered on its three sides by sheer rock faces. The ultra-draining soil is a an alluvial conglomeration of mineral rich rocks and silt from all over the Alps. It is the spell that unlocks the magic in her favorite grape, Teroldego. Once thought an insipid wine for early drinking, Elisabetta and others have now proven it to be as intense and long lived as the rest of the world's finest red wines.

What importer Bowler Wine has to say about this wine...

100% Teroldego. Referred to simply as "Foradori" by the Foradori when speaking of their various wines, this is the estate's core red: first bottled by Elisabetta's parents back in 1960 and their largest production today. It comes from 9 hectares of estate vines, planted from 1956 to 2005 on the flat, sunny, well-drained Camp Rotaliano plateau right around the winery. The soils are a range of alluvial sand and gravel and feature Dolomitic limestone. Older vines are trained traditionally in pergola; younger vines are trained on wires in guyot. The farming is certified-biodynamic. There are 15 separate parcels, all hand-harvested and vinified separately. The bunches are partly destemmed and partly left intact, depending on the vintage; the uncrushed berries and the whole clusters are layered in cement tanks, where they ferment spontaneously with indigenous yeasts and no sulfur. The wine is aged for around a year in well-worn, 20-40-hectoliter botti and bottled without fining or filtration and with a small dose of sulfur.
