What is this wine?
Founded by David Lett in 1965, Eyrie Vineyards is the original pioneer of Pinot Noir in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. The estate’s The Eyrie Pinot Noir comes from the original plantings in the Dundee Hills—some of the oldest Pinot vines in the United States. Farmed organically and made with a gentle, minimalist approach, it is the purest expression of the domaine’s historic site. The 2022 vintage was marked by even ripening and freshness, producing Pinot of balance and vibrancy.

Why get this wine?
Few bottles carry such historical and cultural weight. Eyrie essentially introduced Pinot Noir to Oregon, and The Eyrie bottling remains a benchmark for elegance and ageworthiness. For Burgundy lovers, it offers an Oregon Pinot of restraint and authenticity, with a legacy that helped shape American wine.

What does this wine taste like?
Graceful and aromatic, with red cherry, cranberry, and pomegranate layered with rose petal, spice, and subtle forest floor. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and lively acidity that carries a long, mineral-tinged finish.

When should you drink this wine?
Beautiful now for its purity, but capable of evolving for 10–15 years. Ideal with roast poultry, duck, salmon, or wild mushroom dishes. Consider decanting young bottles to open the aromatics.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 95
"Rich black raspberry, shavings of cedar, undergrowth, worn leather and rose waft up to form a beguiling bouquet as the 2022 Pinot Noir Eyrie Vineyard slowly evolves in the glass. Harmonious to the core, this floods the palate with textures of pure silk, displaying vividly ripe wild berry fruits enhanced by hints of sour citrus and spice. A web of crunchy tannins lingers as tart cranberry mixes with inner violet florals and a sensation of liquid stone through the long and lightly structured finale. The mix of energy and complexity here is something to behold" -Eric Guido

"The 2022 Pinot Noir The Eyrie offers a slow blossoming of aromas: strawberry jam, juniper and Earl Grey tea leaves give way to deeper tones of mushrooms and dried earth on the nose. The light-bodied palate features concentrated, complex layers of strawberry, spice and earth. It’s structured by silky tannins and mouthwatering acidity and has a long, nuanced finish. It’s a touch softer and more open than the other 2022s and will be drinkable a bit earlier." -Erin Brooks

"From the first pour of this vibrant purple-hued Pinot, you'll know you're in for an extraordinary ride. This estate bottling blends Pinot from Eyrie’s 5 certified-organic estate vineyards, where the Willamette Valley's iconic variety got its start. This sophisticated, well-balanced, and highly aromatic wine offers notes of candied strawberries, orange peel, pink peppercorns, and a bouquet of florals, highlighted by the distinct scent of rose petals. On the palate, the grippy tannins and vibrant acidity hint at a promising ageing journey." -Clive Pursehouse

"Eyrie's estate wine Pinot Noir soars like an eagle with aromas of blackberries, violets and the pine needles, duff and mushroom qualities often found on a forest floor. Tart black cherry and lemon zest flavors are joined by notes of cacao nibs and a wee bit of bone marrow. Crisp acidity and silky tannins offer ample support." -Michael Alberty
