Jean Perrier et Fils, Abymes Vin de Savoie "Cuvée Gastronomie", 2023 $15.99 $13.43
If you bottled up fresh mountain air and a handful of alpine flowers, you’d get something close to this. Jean Perrier’s Abymes is pure Jacquère from Savoie—aka the land of fondue, skiing, and insanely refreshing white wines. Crisp and feather-light, but with a little extra texture and minerality under all that lemony zip. It's basically the ultimate food wine, perfect for lovers of Muscadet, Picpoul, or other mineral-driven French varieties.
Storm Point, Swartland Chenin Blanc, 2024 $16.99 $14.27
South Africa's Cape of Good Hope once had a much darker name — Cape of Storms, due to the torrents that can batter the region. Storm Point takes its name from this moniker, and indeed their vines of Chenin Blanc are a quick drive from the ocean. Chenin Blanc remains the queen of South African varieties, and this particular example is a delight to the senses: delicate aromas of apple blossom and lemon zest are followed by a peachy, vaguely tropical palate and a hit of salinity on the finish.
Seehof, Riesling Kabinett Elektrisch, 2024 $17.99 $15.11 (limited)
An excellent little bottle of wine with an apt label of a thunderbolt on a bright red background. Just humming with an electric current of acidity, nearly vibrating your palate as you drink it, it punches well above its weight by price. What could almost be too much acidity is buffered by a silky layer of fruit, green apple, limeade, and cut grass. A slick layer of residual sugar gives it a slurp-able quality, rather than puckering. It goes down very fast with a finish that urges you to have another sip.
Les Vignerons d’Estezargues, VdF Carambouille, 2023 $17.99 $15.29
Carambouille 2023 is a light, fresh and fruity French red wine, ideal for being served chilled, made from a blend of grape varieties such as Cinsault, Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Mourvèdre, and Counoise, produced by an organic cooperative in the Rhône with minimal intervention, offering notes of cherry, raspberry and strawberry. A perfect, light, and juicy red wine to serve with the riches of Thanksgiving (though it works as an aperitif, too!).
Château Combel-la-Serre, Cahors ‘Le Pur Fruit du Causse’, 2022 $18.99 $15.95
Combel-la-Serre is leading the charge for a fresher, more elegant style of Cahors, moving away from the heavy, oak-laden Malbecs of the past. Le Pur Fruit du Causse, sourced from limestone-rich soils on the Quercy plateau, is their most vibrant and immediate expression. Fermented with native yeasts and aged in cement to preserve purity, the 2022 vintage is a showcase of Malbec’s floral, mineral-driven side.
Folk Machine, White Light, 2024 $19.99 $16.79
A riotous blend of 30% Tocai Friulano, 23% Albariño, 21% Verdelho, 21% Vermentino, and 5% Sauvignon Blanc, all organic and hailing from all over the Golden State. With juicy aromatics and flavors of peach, melon, lime, salt and stones, this is a lightly aromatic, super textural wine. Folk Machine is Kenny Likitprakong’s California label, known for laid-back blends and site-driven wines.
Brigaldara, Valpolicella, 2024 $19.99 $16.79
Brigaldara has been producing wine in the Veneto for almost a century, and their Valpolicella is a perfect match for a classic Thanksgiving spread. It's a light red wine that is endlessly pairable, with delicate aromas and brambly red fruit — perhaps a hint of crushed violet on the nose? In the 2024 vintage, this is velvety in texture, with lots of fresh acidity and a ruby hue.
Domaine Dupeuble, Beaujolais, 2024 $19.99 $16.79
Domaine Dupeuble, a historic family estate in southern Beaujolais, is known for producing classic, unpretentious Gamay with minimal intervention. Their 2024 Beaujolais, made from old vines and fermented with native yeasts, captures the vibrant fruit and pure, refreshing style that makes this region so beloved. The vintage, marked by balance and bright acidity, delivers a wine that is both lively and irresistibly drinkable.
Haarmeyer, Clarksburg Sutter Ranch Vineyard Chenin Blanc Saint Rey, 2024 $21.99 $18.47
Haarmeyer has long been on our radar for their crystalline expressions of Chenin Blanc, some of the most delicious examples of the grape outside of its home region of the Loire Valley in France. There's plenty of white fruit and flowers, aromas of wildflower honey and lanolin, and a long, stony finish.
Red Tail Ridge, Estate Dry Riesling, 2024 $22.99 $19.31
From one of our favorite Finger Lakes winemakers, this crisp, perfectly balanced dry Riesling is bursting with tropical fruit and a touch of white pepper. Grown at one of the most environmentally sustainable and innovative estates in the US, it's an absolute steal and a versatile food wine. Perfect for BYO and dinner-party occasions.
Monte Rio, Old Vine Lodi Zinfandel, 2022 $24.99 $20.99
There’s a new style of Zinfandel in town, with the intensity, sweetness, and alcohol levels all dialed down. Monte Rio, founded by former NYC sommelier Patrick Cappiello is offering exactly this new, refreshing style of a beloved American classic. This comes from insanely old Zinfandel vines — 120-185 years of age! Medium to full in body. Classic flavors of blueberry, tobacco and black pepper, dry and savory with a bright energetic finish.
Swick Wines, Bring It Red Wine, 2022 $26.99 $22.67
Bring It is a "classic" mix of Oregon Pinot Noir with warmer climate Yakima Valley Rhône varietals. Pinot Noir contributes mushroom, earth, and fresh acidity; Syrah imparts smoke and dark cherry while Grenache and Mourvèdre add saltiness and meatiness. All the vineyards for this blend are cold-climate sites which makes this wine very fresh and not heavy-handed. Joe is calling this vintage of Bring It one of his favorites ever produced!
Felsina, Chianti Classico, 2022 $28.99 $24.35
We love Felsina for the estate's traditional and delicious Sangiovese-based wines. Drink with turkey, red sauce, or anything in-between. Vinous' Antonio Galloni loves it, too: "The 2022 Chianti Classico Berardenga is superb. Rich and deep yet also quite translucent, the 2022 is an archetype of Castelnuovo Berardenga. Black cherry, leather, spice, tobacco, menthol and dried herbs inform this potent, super-classic Chianti Classico. This is beautifully done, especially for the year."
Birichino, Pinot Noir Saint Georges Vineyard, 2024 $29.99 $25.19
Birichino is a young-ish project favoring old vineyards, Old World influence, and minimal intervention. This Pinot Noir comes from a vineyard in the foothills of the Santa Cruz mountains, as well as a few limestone-rich, high-elevation plots that impart a touch of structure and some darker fruit. Wine Advocate says “A poised and pretty nose of red and black fruits with woody, balsamic accents is followed by an elegantly lush palate, concluding with a fresh, balanced finish.”
Neyers, Sonoma County Chardonnay 304, 2023 $33.99 $28.55
Bruce Neyers is a legend in the wine world — he has made wine all over California, Germany, and France, and in the '90s became Kermit Lynch's right-hand-man on the West Coast. His eponymous project is all about California's sunny climate and ripe fruit, with Old World sensibilities. This wine is bone dry, loaded with fresh minerality. It’s bright and crisp, with flavors both complex and rich.
Kelley Fox, Dundee Hills Pinot Noir 'Mirabai', 2023 $35.99 $30.23
Kelley's wines are full of life and energy, showing off the impressive talent and skill that has convinced some of the Willamette Valley’s best growers to entrust Fox with their prize sites. Mirabai is a perfect example. Sourced from own-rooted Pommard vines from two top Dundee Hills vineyards, this is honest and joyful Dundee Hills Pinot with a deep well of pure, red raspberry and strawberry and a touch of baking spice.
Jolie-Laide, Sonoma County Trousseau Gris, 2024 $35.99 $30.23 (limited)
Planted in the '70s, these rare, near-extinct vines with massive, gnarly trunks produce unique and fascinating fruit. In return, the wine made from them is always beguilingly complex and nuanced. To preserve natural acidity, we harvested the grapes early and foot stomped them for a three day whole cluster cold soak. This gentle maceration adds subtle texture and mouthfeel, lifted aromatics, and a gorgeous rose gold hue. A fresh and elegant wine showing off summer melon, nectarine, white tea, and pine.
Do Ferreiro, Rías Baixas Albariño, 2023 $37.99 $31.91
Do Ferreiro is virtually synonymous with high quality Galician Albariño, and their 2023 is especially terrific — simultaneously richly textured and light on its feet. On the nose, there are delicate floral notes; the palate offers flavors of bright lime and aromatic quince. Finishes with lots of granitic minerality and sea salt. Incisive enough to cut through the richness of the meal, delicate enough to enjoy as an aperitif or with cheese.
López de Heredia, Rioja Reserva "Bosconia", 2014 $43.99 $37.39
López de Heredia is one of Rioja's most important and historical bodegas; Viña Bosconia is their approximation of Burgundy, and is the only wine sold in a curved Burgundy bottle. Of course, it’s not Pinot Noir; rather, it’s a blend of 80% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacha and a splash of Mazuelo (Carignan) and Graciano. Luis Gutierrez of the Wine Advocate calls it, "elegant and nuanced, developed but young for its age, with a seamless palate and very fine tannins, with energy and light."
