Barolo isn’t just about the old guard anymore—and Lalu is proof. This is a single-cru Barolo from Le Coste di Monforte, made by a new-generation winemaker who’s dialing into site, nuance, and Nebbiolo’s more soulful side.

The 2020 vintage is young, sure, but already showing off. You get all the classic Barolo markers—rose petals, tar, dried cherry, a little anise—but with a texture that’s more glide than grit. There's power, no doubt (this is Monforte, after all), but it’s the kind that simmers rather than shouts.

Farming is organic, winemaking is low-intervention, and oak is used with a light hand—just enough to round the edges without blurring the detail. It's Barolo with clarity, tension, and a long view. The kind of bottle that makes Burgundy drinkers raise an eyebrow and say “wait… this is Nebbiolo?”

Le Coste di Monforte in Monforte d'Alba.
SOIL
The soil is a sandy Sant'Agata Fossil Marl, a formation fo marine orgin marked by marls with a higher sand content compared to other types of Sant'Agata Marl.
VITICULTURE
Practicing organic. Hand-harvested.
VINIFICATION
1/2 is done whole berry and 1/2 is destemmed. Vinified in Austrian oak. Depending on the vintage, they'll prolong the maceration using the traditional submerged cap technique.
AGING
Aged in Austrian oak vats for 24 month and for three months in cement.
