"Vino de Color is a strange category of concentrated reduced must with lots of color. It is used to darken wines before artificial coloring was available. The NV Vino de Color El Álamo-Añina is a very old such wine from one single barrel that had evaporated to only 3% alcohol while keeping 600 grams of sugar and a pH of 3.2 with 15.4 grams of acidity. This was blended with concentrated must reduced to one-third, which gave it some vinosity. They believe this spent 90 years in cask. This could be the darkest and thickest wine I've ever seen, very extreme, like liquid licorice, chocolate liqueur, with a velvety palate, keeping the poise. It's very long, intense and persistent. It could kill a diabetic. 200 half bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2023. This is mostly academic, as it's virtually unobtainable. 96pts" — Luis Gutiérrez, The Wine Advocate
