Kirkton Estate traces to the origins of Australian viticulture—John Busby established the Hunter Valley's first vineyard here, eventually cultivating 365 different vine varieties and hosting Australia's first positively identified Chardonnay. "The William" honors William Kelman, one of the first land grant recipients at Kirkton on the Hunter River. This 100% Semillon comes from 40+ year-old vines in the prestigious Hordem and Dalwood vineyards, fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel—honoring the Hunter Valley's minimalist tradition that allows pure terroir expression. Hunter Semillon is unique among world whites: picked early at low sugar levels, bottled young and crisp, it transforms over decades into rich, honeyed complexity without ever seeing oak. The wine shows fresh lemon sherbet and citrus now, with a clean, complex palate and stunning lime finish. Cellar confidently for ten years or more.
