At 35 years of age, the 1990 Clos Windsbuhl represents something increasingly rare: the historical record of how Vendange Tardive ages across decades. This wine comes from Zind-Humbrecht's northernmost site, a high-altitude (350m) vineyard at Hunawihr that rarely produces botrytized grapes despite extended harvest. Instead, concentration arrives through pure hang time—cool limestone slopes that preserve acidity while ripening sugar to near-honey levels. Three decades in bottle have worked their slow magic: the wine has likely evolved from youthful freshness toward honeyed richness, tertiary nut and caramel notes, mineral complexity from limestone, and an integration so profound that sweetness becomes secondary to sophistication. This is a museum piece of Alsatian winemaking, a bottle that documents both terroir and time. Treat it as a historical meditation, not simply as a dessert wine.

"Tasting this monumental Pinot Gris Clos Windsbuhl Vendange Tardives is a mind-boggling experience. It is stunning in its completeness. It has exemplary breadth, texture, refinement, balance, and length. While it is forward and at first appears to be giving all its got, with time it becomes evident that it has even more underlying power and concentration that will be displayed in time, with cellaring." -Pierre Rovani
