Julien Mareschal makes fascinating and delicious wines in one of the cultiest wine regions of all, the Jura. But ultimately, he is a farmer—just one who happens to be dedicated to the Jura's unique indigenous grapes. He’s a native, and seems to have been born to the vine, even if his family wasn't in wine: he founded Domaine de la Borde at the tender age of 23, inspired by a less-is-more philosophy.
Julien's domaine is tiny—just 5 hectares. Vines range from 7 to 77 years old. Each grape variety is planted on just the right soil, with just the right exposure. His aim: to display the Jura's terroir in blazing Technicolor. To further that goal, the vineyards have been farmed organically, with biodynamic influence, since 2012.
