Daniel Bouland is a master of Morgon, crafting intensely structured, terroir-driven Beaujolais from old vines with minimal intervention. His Vieilles Vignes Corcelette comes from a prized parcel of Gamay planted on sandy granite soils, which lends the wine both elegance and depth. The 2015 vintage, a warm and concentrated year, has now had time to shed its youthful power, revealing layers of complexity and Burgundian finesse.

Dark cherry, blackberry, and stewed plum lead the way, intertwined with dried rose petals, crushed rock, and subtle baking spice. The once-firm tannins have softened into a velvety texture, while the wine’s vibrant acidity keeps everything fresh and lifted. Compared to Bouland’s deeper, more structured Cailloux bottling, Corcelette leans into refinement and aromatic precision, making it one of the most expressive wines in his lineup.

Now in a perfect drinking window, this 2015 Corcelette pairs effortlessly with roast duck, mushroom risotto, or aged Comté. While still showing vibrancy, further aging will bring even more tertiary depth. A stunning example of how serious Morgon can age and evolve.

Cru Beaujolais is no longer a secret among wine lovers. For about a decade now names like Lapierre, Foillard and Metras have been among the most sought after by collectors and everyday wine drinkers alike. We have long believed that the wines of Daniel Bouland were deserving of the same attention and devotion, and in the last couple of years that has become a reality.

Bouland's wines come from very old vines and seem to operate on three well-delineated layers: An airy top register of flowers and flint-smoke, the middle layer flush with refined (and sometimes powerful) red fruits, and precise, vividly mineral structures at the low register. It's this near- visualizable depth and detail that sets them apart. Bouland would probably make a great photographer.

The wines can age. Ten years is not asking too much. But most also drink wonderfully on release - especially the Chiroubles, Melanie, and Corcelette. They have brains and brawn. And, most importantly, beauty.
