The Dellchen vineyard represents Dönnhoff's most prestigious Nahe holding—a site of exceptional terroir and aging potential. The Grosses Gewächs (Grand Cru dry) designation indicates wines at the estate's highest quality level. At one year old, this 2024 vintage shows young vibrancy alongside the kind of complexity that comes from Nahe's greatest vineyard sites. The Dellchen—farmed using the same meticulous hand-harvesting and immediate-pressing techniques as all Dönnhoff vineyards—represents benchmark German Riesling. This wine will age beautifully for 10+ years, developing the honeyed complexity and dried-fruit character that defines mature German Riesling.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 96
"The 2024 Riesling Norheimer Dellchen Grosses Gewächs was made in tiny quantities this year. It is from a porphyry site with shale cover. Flint, herb and lemon aromas come together in a most enticing combination. The palate is taut, svelte and luminous. Stony and fine, elegance runs through it like sunlight, heightening the citric freshness imbued with peppery, zesty savor. The 2024 is so linear and bright yet completely ripe. Cornellius says that they picked just 1,500 kg per hectare." -Anne Krebiehl, MW

Robert Parker

RP 93
"The 2024 Dellchen GG Norheimer Riesling is deep and dense on the nose, with ripe, juicy fruit, good substance and fullness and fine tannins that are already apparent in the aroma. Juicy and full-bodied on the palate, this is a powerful and still somewhat loud and sharp Dellchen with potential to refine." -Stephan Reinhardt

German Wines

Is there a better grape than Riesling? Is there a better value? Its fruit purity, its perfume, and its mineral nuance are all unparalleled. And for centuries, the top German Rieslings were priced accordingly: at least as expensive as the top red wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy. But nowadays you could spend a lifetime exploring Germany’s great Riesling-producing regions while staying well within your budget. You might take an occasional break to try Germany’s other white grapes or perhaps a glass of Spätburgunder (the local name for Pinot Noir). It’s time to get started!
