The Reiterpfad (Rider's Path) vineyard represents von Winning's commitment to terroir-specific Riesling from Pfalz's premier sites. The Erste Lage (first vineyard) and Trocken (dry) designations indicate wines meeting the highest Pfalz standards. At two years old, this 2023 vintage shows the kind of quality and character that von Winning has built its reputation on—mineral-driven, structure-focused, food-compatible. The Erste Lage designation reflects decades of vineyard evaluation and commitment to quality; only the finest sites receive this classification. For those seeking sophisticated German Riesling from Pfalz, this wine demonstrates why the region commands respect.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 94
"The 2023 Riesling Ruppertsberger Reiterpfad Erste Lage was harvested throughout parcels classified as Grosse Lage within this Erste Lage site. It was made partly in large neutral barrels, Doppelstück, Stück and tonneaux. Reduction is tame but definitely subdues the nose—only gentle citrus escapes for now. Juiciness, roundness and clarity, however, are superbly bright and present on the palate. Lovely concentration boasts depth and smoothness, but the footprint remains slender, fine and bright. This is an elegant, smooth and beautifully layered wine with much understatement. Everything is here, and nothing is loud." -Anne Krebiehl MW

German Wines

Is there a better grape than Riesling? Is there a better value? Its fruit purity, its perfume, and its mineral nuance are all unparalleled. And for centuries, the top German Rieslings were priced accordingly: at least as expensive as the top red wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy. But nowadays you could spend a lifetime exploring Germany’s great Riesling-producing regions while staying well within your budget. You might take an occasional break to try Germany’s other white grapes or perhaps a glass of Spätburgunder (the local name for Pinot Noir). It’s time to get started!
