The Jérôme Prévost Champagne La Closerie Les Béguines Extra Brut LC17 is an exceptional Blanc de Noirs made exclusively from 100% Pinot Meunier. This singular cuvée hails from Prévost’s 2.2-hectare vineyard, Les Béguines, located in Gueux, west of Reims. Planted in the 1960s, the vines are deeply rooted in calcareous sand and clay soils, contributing to the wine’s distinct minerality and complexity. Vinified and aged in oak barrels, this Champagne undergoes spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and is bottled without fining or filtration. Disgorged with minimal dosage, it highlights the precision and purity for which Jérôme Prévost is celebrated.

On the nose, this Champagne reveals a layered bouquet of honeycomb, walnuts, and confit lemon, interwoven with notes of warm bread and delicate spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied and concentrated, with racy acidity and a pronounced chalky structure. Of the cult-producers making Champagnes in a more Burgundian model - single parcel, single vintage - Jérôme Prévost has to be one of the most challenging to get your hands on. All of Prévost wines are fermented in neutral oak barrels, and then bottled the following summer without fining, filtration, or cold-stabilization, and only a minimal amount of sulfur. Prévost prefers post-disgorgement aging and these wines spend less than three years in on the lees before release – which is why they cannot be officially vintage labeled. Though they are conveniently coded with the year of harvest (LC13 is harvest 2013 for example). There are fewer than 10,000 bottles a year in total production. These are some of the best Champagne additions you can bring to your cellar. With proper mid-term aging they will weave together harmoniously, becoming more structured and generous with each passing year. How long? You will be rewarded with 5-10 years of patience – but, of course, it's a joy to check in with a bottle here and there along the way.

"The NV Extra Brut Les Béguines LC 17 will be disgorged in October, and it has clearly turned out very well despite the challenging year, wafting from the glass with aromas of citrus oil, candle wax, white flowers, warm bread and spices, with only hints of the further complexity to come. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, lively and concentrated, with a ripe and enveloping core of fruit underpinned by racy acids."
