Greece has one of the world’s most unique winemaking traditions, and some of the most intriguing grape varieties, often hailing from just one tiny corner of the nation. This white wine from the island of Crete is made from Vidiano, an ancient and obscure grape currently enjoying a revival thanks to some passionate young winemakers (Nikolas Douloufakis among them). It’s vinified entirely in stainless, and it’s crisp, lightly aromatic and incredibly refreshing, with notes of citrus, dried herbs and a brisk salinity.
