Bernhard Ott's Fass 4 is a reference point for what Grüner Veltliner can be when treated with rigor and care. Since 1988, this wine has taken its name from a hand-selected barrel that Ott's customers would choose annually—a tradition that underscores the wine's consistent quality and distinctive character. Made from grapes harvested in the warm Wagram region, it combines the richness these vineyards provide with mineral precision and herbal aromatic intensity. Ott, the fourth-generation winemaker and founder of Respekt, converted his estate to biodynamic viticulture in 2007, bringing a philosophical commitment to balance that translates into wine of uncommon freshness. The 2024 shows yellow apple, nectarine and citrus with savory herbal notes and a bright, juicy palate that finishes long and mineral-driven.

Antonio Galloni

AG 92
"The 2024 Grüner Veltliner Fass 4 is a brand that has existed since 1988 and is partly what made Bernhard Ott's name. It is harvested in the Hengstberg site, which straddles the regions of Kamptal and Wagram. Subtle yeast shows the verve of reduction, but also a salty, herbal tang typical of Grüner Veltliner. The palate continues with that herbal edge, bringing crushed yarrow and something slightly more peppery that smooths into the yeasty yet slender texture. Tender saltiness makes for a long finish on this slender, smooth wine." -Anne Krebiehl, MW
