Guy Breton is famously a member of the Gang of Four, which revolutionized the natural wine world with their hands-off approach and dedication to chemical-free farming. After taking over the family domaine in the 1980s, Guy and a handful of other vignerons were determined to revolutionize the status quo in Beaujolais; at the time, an area rife with industrial winemaking, inoculated yeast fermentations, and generally boring, low-quality wines.
American importer Kermit Lynch crossed paths with these young winemakers, a fortuitous circumstance that elevated his business, their craft and indeed planted the seeds of the natural wine movement. By focusing on terroir and quality fruit, and choosing not to manipulate, Breton is able to vinify sound, stable and classic wines without the addition of sulfur.
