What is this wine?
Il Verro is a tiny, organic estate in Alto Casertano, northern Campania, focused on reviving rare indigenous grape varieties. One of their most distinctive is Coda di Pecora—a white grape once confused with Coda di Volpe but now recognized as a separate, nearly forgotten variety. “Sheep” playfully translates the name while reflecting Il Verro’s dedication to local tradition and biodiversity.
Why get this wine?
This is one of the very few bottlings of Coda di Pecora available anywhere, making it a genuine rarity. Il Verro is committed to preserving endangered grapes, so each bottle is not only delicious but also part of a preservation project. For adventurous drinkers and lovers of unique Italian whites, this is a must-try.
What does this wine taste like?
Fresh and aromatic, with citrus, green apple, and pear layered with wild herbs, almond, and a subtle mineral edge. Crisp acidity keeps it lively, while a gentle texture adds complexity.
When should you drink this wine?
Perfect as an aperitif or alongside seafood, fried anchovies, vegetable fritters, or mozzarella di bufala. Best enjoyed in its first 2–3 years to capture its freshness.
