The 2022 Joseph Drouhin Beaune Premier Cru Clos des Mouches Blanc is a luxurious and refined Chardonnay, showcasing the exceptional terroir of one of Burgundy’s most renowned vineyards. Clos des Mouches, situated on the southern edge of Beaune, is a premier cru vineyard renowned for its ability to produce both red and white wines of remarkable elegance. Joseph Drouhin, a historic family estate, has crafted this wine with precision, emphasizing the unique qualities of this storied site.

In the glass, the wine presents a radiant pale gold hue. The nose is complex and inviting, offering layers of ripe pear, white peach, and lemon zest, complemented by floral notes of acacia and hints of toasted hazelnut, vanilla, and a subtle mineral edge. On the palate, it is full-bodied and beautifully balanced, with a creamy texture and lively acidity that gives the wine a sense of energy and vibrancy. Flavors of citrus, orchard fruits, and a touch of honey are interwoven with a pronounced mineral backbone, leading to a long, elegant finish with lingering notes of wet stone and spice.

The 2022 vintage, marked by warm and even growing conditions, imparts a ripe and generous character to this wine while preserving its hallmark freshness and structure. This premier cru Chardonnay is an excellent pairing for dishes such as seared scallops, lobster in a butter sauce, or roasted chicken with truffle. While approachable now for its expressive fruit and polished texture, it has the depth and complexity to age gracefully over the next 10–15 years, rewarding patience with additional nuance. Joseph Drouhin’s Clos des Mouches Blanc is a masterpiece of Burgundy, offering both opulence and precision.

Joseph Drouhin is, of course, one of the great names of Burgundy. A rare producer that makes fantastic wines across the whole range of prices. Their Musigny is one of Burgundy's most sought-after bottles. But their "everyday-priced" wines are some of the greatest values year in and year out. And in between those extremes, they have a whole range of perfectly terroir expressive wines that over-deliver for price, including gems like the legendary Cotes their Beaune Clos des Mouches, offering close to Grand Cru quality at decidedly lower prices.

"The 2022 Beaune Clos des Mouches Blanc 1er Cru had been racked into tank a fortnight earlier. It will cohere on the nose, but it already shows much promise: citrus fruit and orange pith, subtle touches of beeswax and white flowers. The medium-bodied palate has a fine definition and the best acidity of the whites I tasted, with fine tension on the finish. This should age well in bottle." -Vinous

"Aromas of buttered orchard fruit, orange blossom, baking spices and toasted nuts introduce the 2022 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Blanc (Domaine), with a medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny palate that's fleshy and layered while retaining nice tension and cut. The Drouhin's seven hectares of Chardonnay in this premier cru were harvested over 15 days."
