Dehours & Fils’ Champagne Grand Réserve Brut NV is a beautifully balanced and expressive blend, showcasing the character of the Vallée de la Marne. Composed primarily of Pinot Meunier, with supporting contributions from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, this non-vintage cuvée offers a harmonious interplay of richness and freshness. The nose reveals inviting aromas of ripe orchard fruits—pear, apple, and golden plum—enhanced by hints of citrus zest, white flowers, and a touch of toasted almond. On the palate, it is vibrant and layered, with flavors of baked apple, lemon curd, and a whisper of brioche, supported by a creamy mousse and bright, refreshing acidity. The finish is elegant and mineral-driven, with lingering complexity.

Crafted with meticulous care, the Grand Réserve reflects Dehours’ commitment to sustainable viticulture and small-parcel winemaking. Grapes are hand-harvested from sustainably managed vineyards, many planted in clay-limestone soils that enhance the wine’s depth and structure. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts and extended lees aging contribute to its texture and nuanced profile. A balanced dosage highlights the wine’s fruit character while preserving its vibrancy.

This Champagne is a versatile choice for food pairings, complementing dishes such as roast chicken, seafood risottos, or creamy cheeses. Its lively yet rich profile also makes it a delightful aperitif for any celebration. Dehours & Fils’ Grand Réserve Brut NV is a testament to the finesse and authenticity of artisanal Champagne.

Jerome Dehours is from an old Champagne family and he decided to go "Grower" around 1996, long before the term was known here in the U.S. It took years of gradually transforming his domaine, selling less of his grapes off every year, as he introduced radically improved techniques in the vine and in the cellar. All this is great news for us, because he now produces brilliant Pinot Meunier-based Champagnes from an obscure corner of Champagne south of the Marne known as the Vallee de Fagot, where the soil is dominated by limestone from fossilized marine animals. He is working in an increasingly natural approach; he no longer blocks malos and has moved towards using only trace amounts of sulphur.

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
