Momtazi Vineyard in the McMinnville foothills is one of Oregon's most distinctive sites: fully Demeter-certified biodynamic since its 1998 planting, farmed without any chemicals from inception, with all soil treatments produced from materials grown on the estate. Kelley Fox—whose scientific background in biochemistry at Oregon State gave way to a winemaking career shaped by David Lett of The Eyrie Vineyards—draws out the vineyard's signature umami character with minimal intervention: native yeasts, foot punch-downs, neutral French oak. The 2013 reveals cherry blossom, cherry confit, blood orange, and polished rosewood—restrained and chiseled, yet seriously seductive. A wine that rewards patience and contemplation.

"Limpid red. Pure, mineral-driven red currant, cherry and potpourri scents show very good clarity and gain depth from hints of licorice and sassafras. Stains the palate with energetic raspberry and bitter cherry flavors, which are given spine by a core of juicy acidity.
