Franck Pascal’s “Reliance” Brut Nature is a biodynamic Champagne from the Vallée de la Marne, led by Pinot Meunier with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. It’s crafted without dosage, fining, or filtration, and aged 6–7 years on lees. No malolactic fermentation is used, preserving vibrant acidity and clarity.

The result is structured and savory, with ripe orchard fruit, chalky minerality, and layered spice. A precise, age-worthy Champagne with depth and lift.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 92
"(57% pinot meunier, 38% pinot noir and 5% chardonnay; 90% from the 2006 vintage, with 10% in the form of 2005 reserve wine; 3.3 g/l dosage; disgorged on December 18, 2012): Pale gold. A pungent bouquet displays scents of pear skin, nectarine, iodine and chalky minerals. The mineral and iodine qualities carry onto the palate, which offers intense orchard and pit fruit flavors, a chewy texture and a refreshingly bitter jolt of lemon pith. Closes with impressive power and mineral cut, leaving a juicy pear note behind." -Josh Raynolds

Robert Parker

"The NV Brut Nature Reliance is a blend of 80% Pinot Meunier with 16% Pinot Noir and 4% Chardonnay based on the vintages 2011 (90%) and 2010 (10%). With intense yellow-fleshed fruit and sweet cherry aromas with spicy and vinous flavors, this is a lean yet very complex, long, firmly structured and elegant Champagne with a long, intense yet still a bit austere and very tensioned finish. It probably needs some time to gain more finesse, but the potential is enormous. This should be great with food, especially raw fish and even matured cheese. Disgorged in June 2016; tasted April 2018." -Stephan Reinhardt

"Restrained lemony, floral nose; inviting palate divulges ripe yellow fruit and patisserie spice, with a fine definition and even-handed acidity. Very neatly-constructed but not for the long haul."

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
