What is this wine?

This is a Brut Nature (zero dosage) Champagne from old-vine Chardonnay in Vertus, a Premier Cru village at the southern end of the Côte des Blancs. Labeled “Vieilles Vignes,” it comes from older, low-yielding vines that provide added concentration and depth. The wine is non-vintage, blended across years for balance and consistency.

Why get this wine?

For fans of precise, mineral-driven Champagne, Brut Nature offers the clearest expression of terroir. Coming from Vertus old vines, this bottle delivers a pure, chalk-etched profile with remarkable intensity and finesse—at a price far below the big-house prestige cuvées. It’s a rare chance to taste grower Champagne in its most transparent form.

What does this wine taste like?

Crisp and linear, with green apple, lemon zest, and white flowers, layered over saline chalkiness. The old vines give it an extra dimension of texture and persistence. Bone dry, lifted, and very food-friendly.

When should you drink this wine?

Ideal as an aperitif for lovers of dry Champagne, or with raw seafood, sushi, and oysters. Best enjoyed now for its freshness, but it will develop more savory, nutty complexity with 3–5 years in bottle.

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
