We've repeated Sancerre's sad story many times: unfairly associated with the oceans of industrial Sancerre poured at every bistro in Paris and San Francisco, a region is ignored by wine snobs everywhere, despite having (in its best corners, like Thomas-Labaille's plots in Monts Damnes) some of the finest white wine terroir on the planet. An artisan like Thomas-Labaille makes exquisite wines that possess all the power, minerality, and refinement you would expect from a cult icon like Raveneau (whose kimmeridgian, chalky terroir in Chablis is strikingly similar to Monts Damnes). But even Labaille's top wine sells for a mere fraction of anything from Raveneau.
What importer Bowler Wine has to say about this wine...
100% Sauvignon Blanc. Originally labeled simply as "Sancerre", L'Authentique is Thomas-Labaille's multi-parcel estate bottling. All of the vines are on the Kimmeridgian limestone soils of Chavignol and average twenty-five years old; they are sustainably farmed and harvested by hand. The wine is fermented with native yeasts in fiberglass and cement tanks, aged on its lees in stainless steel tanks for four to six months and bottled without filtration.

Loire Valley Wines
The Loire Valley is France’s greatest source of value for anyone looking for elegant, terroir-driven wines. Our collection celebrates the region’s great diversity, with the mineral-driven whites of Muscadet and Sancerre, the beautiful Chenin Blancs and Cabernet Francs from villages like Vouvray and Chinon, and natural wines from everywhere in the region. Sometimes wonderfully fresh and gulpable, sometimes serious and age-worthy, the prices are always very reasonable.
