Antonio Galloni

"The 2022 Riesling Westhofener Brunnenhäuschen Grosses Gewächs abuts the Morstein, but it is slightly more elevated with its limestone overlaid with terra rossa rich in iron oxide. Flinty reduction still holds sway on the nose. However, the palate comes with a smooth, serene and gentle texture of lemon zest bedded on soft, pillowy yeast, yet with many directions and zing, driving forward with gentle force. The finish tapers to beautiful, lemon-pervaded slenderness. The phenolic grip manifests on the finish with beautiful finesse and zesty, citric definition. The 2022 is a lovely and intriguing mix of obliqueness and directness. It's very long and very fine in the face of 2022. Wow." -Vinous

"From the core parcels in the cru, the 2022 Morstein Westhofen Riesling GG is pure, intense and chalky on the elegant, dense and spicy, darker-toned nose that is still a bit untamed but deep and exciting, even with woodruff aromas! Enormously mineral and tannic on the palate, this is a full-bodied, rich and enormously complex, masculine and monolithic Riesling that needs a lot of time in the cellar to develop and refine. A highly promising Riesling! 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in July 2023."

German Wines

Is there a better grape than Riesling? Is there a better value? Its fruit purity, its perfume, and its mineral nuance are all unparalleled. And for centuries, the top German Rieslings were priced accordingly: at least as expensive as the top red wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy. But nowadays you could spend a lifetime exploring Germany’s great Riesling-producing regions while staying well within your budget. You might take an occasional break to try Germany’s other white grapes or perhaps a glass of Spätburgunder (the local name for Pinot Noir). It’s time to get started!
