In the heart of Barbaresco, the Albesani vineyard delivers a Nebbiolo that is both powerful and elegant. Deep black fruit—blackberry, plum—enters the scene, framed by the delicate floral aromas of rose and violet. Subtle earthy tones of tobacco and leather emerge, adding complexity and depth to the wine.

On the palate, it strikes a balance between structure and finesse. The tannins are firm, providing the backbone for the wine’s rich fruit, while the acidity keeps it fresh and vibrant. A layer of earthiness lingers, leading to a finish that stretches on, with fruit and floral notes weaving together seamlessly.

This Barbaresco is perfect with roasted meats, truffled dishes, or hard cheeses. While it’s certainly enjoyable now, its structure suggests it will continue to evolve and gain more complexity over time.

Luca Roagna and his family have been making some of the greatest wines in Piemonte for generations, and the quality just keeps rising. Anyone will be able to respect and admire the work of Luca Roagna: no step taken in the vineyard or the winery is without complete follow-through of thought.

Standing in the middle of one of their vineyards, you almost forget it's a place to grow grapes. Grass, insects and wildlife flourish throughout the vines, which are never subjected to chemical sprays, mowing or tilling. The bio-sphere is diverse and vigorous, the soils healthy: the result is impeccably grown grapes ready to become impeccably made wine.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

"The Barbaresco Albesani 2019 is a haunting, magnificent wine. Sweet macerated cherry, kirsch, dried herbs, mint, leather and orange peel rise from the glass. A Barbaresco of exotic beauty and elegance, the 2019 Albesani has so much to offer. It is not an instant wine, but its charm is impossible to resist. This deceptively medium-bodied Barbaresco simply needs time to show its best side. I particularly admire its inner sweetness. Cinnamon, dried red cherries, menthol and cedar linger on the beguiling, structured finish." -Vinous

"There's fluidity and viscosity to the texture in this red, setting the stage for its macerated cherry, strawberry, rose hip, hay and eucalyptus flavors. This features an underlying mineral element too, which works in tandem with the vibrant acidity and firm, refined tannins. Long and complex."
