Vecchie Viti (old vines) from Roagna's Pira vineyard in Castiglione Falletto—where the oldest vines reach 60 years and chalky limestone veins run through the hillside. This steep site produces big, powerful Barolo with serious structure and mineral lift. The VV designation captures grapes from the estate's oldest, most concentrated vines, amplifying the wine's ability to age for decades. Roagna holds back these wines in bottle for years before release, ensuring maturity and complexity from day one.

Crushed flowers, spice, herbs, coffee and pine are some of the many notes that continue to open as the 2020 blossoms in the glass. Vineyard
Sourced from the Pira cru in Castiglione Falletto. It is a monopole vineyard and is the largest parcel owned by the Roagna family at 4.88 hectares.

Soil
There are 6 unique micro parcels depending on the composition of the terrain which ranges from limestone marl Roca to blue stone.
Viticulture
The vines for this wine are over 50 years old.. The youngest vines for this wine date back to 1937.
Vinification
Fermentation lasts ten days in large wood casks. They ferment with a pied de cuvee made from their indigenous yeasts. They then use the technique of submerged cap -- which can last 70-90 days.
Aging
The wine is then aged in large neutral French botti. The oak Luca uses is never toasted but instead made by using hot steam instead of flame. The wine is normally aged for five years in wood before release.
