Nero d’Avola is rarely seen in California, but Martha Stoumen saw its potential early—especially in the hot, dry vineyards of Mendocino and Contra Costa, where it thrives under regenerative farming. Her 2021 bottling is a pure, transparent take on the grape: fermented with native yeast, aged in neutral oak, and bottled unfined and unfiltered, with minimal sulfur.

The result is vivid and layered. There’s dark fruit, yes, but also bright acidity, herbal lift, and a textural core that’s more savory than sweet.
