Leeu Passant, the flagship project from the team behind Mullineux Wines, was created to revive and celebrate South Africa’s heritage of age-worthy, classically styled wines. Their Cabernet Sauvignon from Stellenbosch draws inspiration from the best of old Cape traditions and Bordeaux's timeless balance between power and refinement.

The 2022 vintage is pure, polished, and deeply expressive: aromas of blackcurrant, graphite, crushed herbs, and cedar leap from the glass. On the palate, it’s full-bodied yet focused, with fine-grained tannins, bright acidity, and a mineral core that frames the dark fruit beautifully. Aged in large-format oak for precision and nuance, it shows both immediate charm and serious structure for long-term aging.

This is a Cabernet that speaks fluently in the language of Pauillac, but with a sunny, South African accent—graceful, savory, and built for a long, slow evolution.

Pair with: grilled steaks, lamb chops, mushroom risotto, or aged cheddar.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 92
"The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Stellenbosch comes from two parcels on the lower slopes of the Helderberg, where there is a strong maritime influence. This has quite a powerful bouquet of black fruit laced with cigar box, autumn leaves and light earthy notes, with just a hint of Japanese nori. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins that frame the black-pepper-infused fruit. Gently grippy and a little "old school" in style, it has quite a gritty, almost Tannat-like finish that is quite distinctive. Very fine." -Neal Martin
