The 2022 Bachey-Legros Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru “Morgeot Les Petits Clos” is a stunning expression of Chardonnay from one of Burgundy’s most celebrated terroirs. Bachey-Legros, a family-run domaine known for their meticulous viticulture and traditional winemaking approach, produces wines that highlight the unique characteristics of their vineyards. The “Les Petits Clos” parcel within the renowned Morgeot climat benefits from limestone-rich soils and an ideal exposure, yielding wines of depth and complexity.

This 2022 vintage shines with a radiant pale gold hue in the glass. The nose is opulent yet refined, revealing aromas of ripe pear, white peach, and Meyer lemon, intertwined with notes of acacia flowers, toasted almonds, and a touch of vanilla from carefully managed oak aging. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and layered, with a creamy texture balanced by vibrant acidity. Flavors of citrus, orchard fruits, and a distinct mineral backbone unfold seamlessly, leading to a long, elegant finish with hints of honey and wet stone.

The warm and consistent growing season of 2022 has endowed this wine with a generous fruit profile while preserving its signature freshness and balance. Perfect for pairing with lobster in a butter sauce, roasted chicken, or creamy mushroom dishes, this Premier Cru Chardonnay is equally delightful for savoring on its own. While approachable in its youth for its expressive fruit and silky texture, it has the structure to evolve over the next 8–10 years, gaining even greater complexity and finesse. The Bachey-Legros “Morgeot Les Petits Clos” is a quintessential expression of Chassagne-Montrachet, offering richness, precision, and undeniable elegance.

Bachey-Legros is located on the oldest street in the picturesque little village of Santenay-les-Haut. The neighborhood looks much the same as it did 200 or 300 years ago. Indeed much of what they are about is decidedly “old.”

The family of Bachey-Legros has been farming in and around Santenay for 6 generations, going back to the 19th century, and they are most proud of their old vines, most of which were planted between 1935 and 1955. They farm these vines fastidiously, using traditional techniques and eschewing chemical treatments. They employ a similar old-school approach in the cellar, with gentle extractions and elevage in top notch barrels of varying ages.

Yes, “old” is definitely an apt word here, except when you are talking about the current generation of proprietors Samuel and Lénaic. These brothers are definitely bringing fresh ideas to the operation while continuing the long traditions of their family.
